Cookies and local data

This site sets no cookie that requires your consent, except in one specific case: if you arrive through one of our Google ads, we ask whether we may tell Google (see below). Without your yes, nothing is sent. Here, one by one, is what your browser keeps from VeriFlip.

Cinq functional cookies

A cookie is a small value our server asks your browser to keep and send back with each page. VeriFlip sets only cinq, each at the moment it becomes useful, and none before.

✓The session — seven daysIt recognises you from one page to the next once you are signed in. It is made up of two cookies that go together, vf_session and vf_refresh: the second is used to renew the first silently, so you are not signed out in the middle of a listing. It is set when you sign in and deleted when you sign out; without a visit for seven days, it expires on its own.
✓The recognised device — 400 daysvf_appareil recognises this device once you have entered the code received by email on it: on an unknown device, your password is not enough. It is a randomly drawn value; we only keep a fingerprint of it, with the country of the sign-in and two dates, which you can see in your account (“Recognised devices”). It is only set when you sign in, and it remains after you sign out: it is what avoids asking for the code every time. Without a new sign-in for 400 days, it expires on its own.
✓Entry — one yearvf_abonne remembers that you have already left your address on the entry page, when that page is in place — during a closure for maintenance. It is only set at that moment, and only if you leave an address; the rest of the time, it does not exist in your browser.
✓Language — one yearvf_langue remembers the language you chose in the language selector, so every page is shown in that language. It is only set if you choose a language, or when you sign in if your account keeps one; without it, the page follows your browser’s language.
✓Visit language — until you close the browservf_langue_vue remembers the language of a translated address (for example /nl/…) through which you arrived, so the following pages stay in that language. It disappears when you close the browser.
What these cinq cookies have in commonNo page script can read them; they only travel over an encrypted connection, and only to our server. None of them follows anyone from one site to another. They are cookies strictly necessary for the service to work: the law exempts them from consent (directive 2002/58/EC, art. 5(3)): no window asks for your consent to them.

Measuring our Google ads — only if you accept

What happens, and whenVeriFlip buys ads on the Google search engine. To know which ones bring in sellers, we can tell Google that a listing has just been published by someone who arrived through one of these ads. The question is only asked of people who arrive through one of our Google ads; other visitors see nothing and are never measured. Until you have said yes, nothing is loaded from Google and nothing is sent to it. If you accept, the Google Ads tag is loaded and Google may set its own ad-measurement cookies, under its own privacy policy; we only send it the fact that a listing was published — not the listing, not your name, not your address. No ad personalisation is requested. Your choice is kept on this device (local storage, vf_mesure_annonces) and your arrival through an ad, for the duration of the visit (session storage, vf_arrivee_annonce).

On this device: No choice saved: nothing is sent.

Two pieces of data kept on your device, without a cookie

The browser’s local storage is not a cookie: nothing is sent from it to our server with each page. Two things live there, both to save you from starting over.

✓The draft of a listing started without an accountThe category, the sub-category, the brand, the model, the condition, the details, the title, the description, the price, and the fact that the listing was taken from pasted text, stay in this browser — never the pasted text itself, never the photos, which are files, and which are precisely the step that requires an account. Nothing is sent to the server as long as there is no account: there would be nobody to attach the listing to. Publishing deletes the draft; so does resetting the form.
✓Your favourites, as long as you have no accountThe list lives in this browser: it does not follow you from a phone to a computer, it goes if you clear the site’s data, and it does not count towards a listing’s public number of favourites — nothing proves there is someone behind it. The day you create an account, it is transferred to it, once, and then the device forgets it.

You can delete these two pieces of data from your browser settings; the site works without them. In private browsing, or if storage is refused, they are simply not kept, and nothing else changes.

For the installable app

VeriFlip installs like an app, from the site (see how). Three more things are used for this; none of them leaves your device.

✓The invitation to install, once closedThe date you closed it, in local storage, so it does not come back for 90 days. Nothing else.
✓The number of pages viewed during the visitThe invitation never appears on the first page: a counter for the current visit tells it so. It lives in session storage, disappears when you close the tab, is sent nowhere and is used for nothing else.
✓The site’s public files, and an offline pageThe program that makes the site installable — a service worker — keeps the layout, scripts and fonts, the same for everyone, and a page saying the network is unavailable. Never a listing, a price, a message or anything from your account.

What we don’t do

No other trackerApart from measuring our Google ads above, and only if you accept it: no advertising cookie, no third-party audience measurement, no social media button that follows you, no font loaded from a third-party server — the site’s two fonts are served from our domain, as is the script that animates the page. The ranking of listings does not depend on any data about you: it is described in full on the transparency page.

What is loaded from elsewhere

!Listing photosThey are served from third-party storage located in the European Union, in Frankfurt: your browser requests the images there, and its IP address is visible there, as on any site that displays images. This provider is described in the legal notice.
!The payment screenPayment takes place on our payment provider’s screen, on its own domain and under its own cookie policy, which that screen presents to you. We set nothing there and read nothing there; your card number never passes through us.

Refuse, delete, ask a question

If you refuse all cookiesYou can browse the categories, read listings and keep favourites on this device, but you cannot stay signed in: without the session cookie, every page would ask you to sign in again. Clearing the site’s data signs you out and empties the draft and favourites kept without an account; nothing in your account is touched.
A question about what your browser keeps?Write to us from the contact page, or at contact@veriflip.app. Details of every piece of data we record, and of your rights, are on the page Privacy.

If a cookie or its duration changes, this page changes the same day.
